This tool used in conjunction with other MEDS™ assets can detect, track and then ultimately turn away almost any threat prior to landfall. | MIDS, often referred to as swimmer detection sonar, is a product manufactured by Sonardyne International Limited and is a leading provider of this type of system. The sonar head is the smallest in the industry and is extremely compact and light weight (35kg). Due to the size and weight this system can be deployed by individuals using only minimal equipment. It provides a full 360° of coverage and is capable of tracking targets up to 900 meters away. The compact nature of this system also allows for portability and flexibility for random deployment. | | | | | | | | The sonar head can also be mounted in multiple fashions, suspended by its own cable, pole or sea bed mounted.The reliable detection of underwater targets and their discrimination from marine mammals is a notoriously difficult problem. This system addresses this challenge by combining state of the art sonar technology, commercial off the shelf (COTS) based processing units and automated detection, classifying and tracking software which has been tested and proven in extensive trials. The result is a system that can function in a wide range of acoustically complex subsea environments and ensure that only genuine threats are highlighted and tracked. This advanced approach minimizes false alarms and reduces the dangerous tension that these false alarms can generate. MIDS is ideal for Port security as up to ten (10) units can be networked into a single command station, offering a cost effective solution to large area coverage. The overlap will increase the level surveillance in any port and can be totally integrated into a central command system with above water detection and surveillance systems. With open architecture full integration of a subsea security zone with MEDS™ is easily accomplished providing the ultimate in port security. |
